Timeless contributor and personality, and former editor at In-Fisherman Steve Quinn has long been known as a bass scientist. He grew up in New York City, yet discovered bass fishing at an early age and built a passion for writing and fishing from there. His story is inspiring and entertaining proving that you can develop a love for fishing no matter what. Plus, the science is nothing short of intriguing. Steve is an incredible man with a great story. Enjoy this segment of In-Fisherman Storyline as we continue to dig into the stories that made In-Fisherman from the beginning.

00:00:33.160 --> 00:00:49.240: But I'm even more excited to have a stalwart in the fishing industry. We're not going to talk about age today, but Steve Quinn has made time to come and sit down. We're going to get his story. I would say rich with wisdom is a nice way to say it.

00:00:49.240 --> 00:01:32.280: Well, that's very kind. Thank you. Well, we got a lot of cool stuff to talk about. And one of the things that we've done with this show is focused on the story of. And it goes back-- well, I think we had our 50th anniversary issue in April. So I mean, way, way before me. But I mean, I'm not even 50 yet. So I'm still probably the young guy by a lot of standards. But we've learned a lot from the folks that have come to sit down and how kind of grew to the most recognizable freshwater fishing authority in America, in North America. And probably across the world, it's just known as being the organization that has taught people to fish.
00:01:32.280 --> 00:01:47.080: A lot of things have changed. Many, many things have changed. But if one thing remains constant, it's that we still have a passion for teaching people how to catch more fish, even in a technological age. Things have changed. All kinds of fish.
00:01:47.080 --> 00:02:38.880: So let's start with-- I'm intrigued by what lit the fire for you. Whenever I talk to people about fishing, I think the story I get stalled out the most on is just getting the details about what lit the fire. Sure. It was kind of a challenging situation, I guess, initially, to look at the scene. Growing up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, my father never fished. They didn't hunt, of course. And so there's no background there. But fortunately, both parents were English professors. And so they had the summer off. And my Uncle Frank lived in Saranac Lake, New York, which is a nice, beautiful lake area, more mountainous than Minnesota, but in other words, many similarities to Minnesota.

00:02:38.880 --> 00:03:04.920: So he would get us a rental cottage to stay for a couple of weeks in the summer. And we really look forward to that. I had to get the old car ready, and we'd fire up to the Adirondacks and set up. And back in those days, Dad and Mom just turned my brother and I loose. And we would explore and go to creeks and go to shore fish…
